If you have suggestions for future ABRF Town Hall topics, please send us your ideas.
Monthly Peer Mentoring Conversations
Join your ABRF colleagues to discuss shared questions, common challenges, or issues that you’re facing in your career or professional journey. The monthly ABRF Peer Mentoring conversations are scheduled for:
Third Tuesdays of the Month
2:00 – 3:00 pm ET
Register here.
Held monthly, these peer-to-peer mentoring discussions will be an opportunity to learn from one another and to identify new ideas or approaches to situations you may face within your roles.
Similar to an informal mentoring program, these small-group conversations are an opportunity to leverage the diverse experiences and abilities within the ABRF Community.
DEIB Virtual Education and Training Series
ABRF is committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members of our community. Achieving this requires continual learning and growth—together.
Join the ABRF DEIB Council for a quarterly, virtual series focused on equity, inclusion, and belonging. Each session will feature discussions, practical strategies, and opportunities to engage meaningfully with peers. Scroll down to the events calendar to register for select sessions. See Events for more details and registration information.
Recent Town Hall: The NCI R50 Award - Your Questions Answered
June 26, 2024
2:00 – 3:00 pm ET
Did you know that the National Cancer Institute (NCI)’s R50 grant opportunity is designed specifically for Research Specialists, including Core research professionals? For 2023, these grants total more than $16 million in total funding to support the specialized work of researchers on over 100 projects.
The (R50) NCI Research Specialist Award encourages the development of stable research career opportunities in any area of NCI-funded cancer research for exceptional scientists who do not serve as independent investigators. These scientists, including researchers within a research program, core facility managers, data scientists, and clinician scientists, are vital to sustaining the biomedical research enterprise. The Research Specialist Award is intended to provide salary support and sufficient autonomy so that individuals are not solely dependent on NCI grants held by others for career continuity.
ABRF is pleased to present this timely program to share more information on this unique program, including the scope of support, stories from prior recipients, and the impact of the Award on their careers and the work of their research organizations.
Join us for this interactive session to hear from:
Gurumurthy, Channabasavaiah, University of Nebraska Medical Center
Sara Goodwin, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory
Christine Siemon, National Cancer Institute
Moderator: Thayumanasamy Somasundaram, ABRF President, Florida State University

ABRF Annual Meeting
The ABRF Annual Meeting is an international program that provides timely updates on cutting-edge science and its execution in a shared resource/core facility setting. These meetings also offer informative and practical workshops as well as ample networking opportunities with academics, corporate, and technology partner colleagues.
Join us in Dallas for the ABRF 2027 Annual Meeting, where core facility professionals and scientific leaders will come together to connect, share insights, and advance the future of research. While the theme is still to be announced, you can expect the same dynamic exchange of ideas, emerging technologies, and collaborative spirit that defines the ABRF community.
More information is coming soon—we look forward to seeing you in Dallas!
With the theme, Innovating at the Intersection of Science, Technology, and Collaboration, ABRF 2026 will bring together leaders across the scientific community to reflect on the lasting impact of our work, and to shape what comes next.
