George Grills
Organizer, ABRF 2009:
Optimization and Application of Existing and Emerging Biotechnologies
George Grills from Cornell University will be the organizer of the ABRF 2009
annual meeting. Grills has participated as a member and chair of various ABRF
research groups, including the DNA Sequencing Research Group (DSRG), the Fragment
Analysis Research Group (FARG) and the Microarray Research Group (MARG). He
is currently a member of the ABRF Membership Committee and the Corporate Relations
Committee (CRC). He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Biomolecular Techniques
(JBT).
Grills is the Director of Operations of Core Facilities in the Life Sciences
and Director of Advanced Technology Assessment at Cornell University. He is
responsible for the operations of the Cornell University Life Sciences Core
Laboratories Center (CLC) and for evaluating, implementing, and optimizing newly
emerging technologies as shared research resources. The Center includes core
facilities for DNA sequencing, genotyping, DNA and protein microarrays, proteomics
and mass spectrometry, protein production and characterization, microscopy and
optical imaging, animal transgenic production, information technology, and bioinformatics.
Prior to coming to Cornell two years ago, Grills was the Director of DNA Sequencing,
Director of Protein Microarrays, and Co-Director of DNA Microarrays at the Harvard
Medical School-Partners Healthcare Center for Genetics and Genomics. Grills
has participated in organizing the Advances in Genome Biology and Technology
(AGBT) meeting, the International Genomics Conference, and the Northeast Regional
Life Sciences Core Directors (NERLSCD) Meeting.
